With the announcement that the New Directions gang will be tackling Broadway favorite West Side Story this season, Broadway.com asked readers to put on their casting director caps and choose the pair of New Directions members who should play the leading roles. The results are in, and it looks like McKinley’s latest transfer is going to go straight to the head of the class! New arrival Blaine (Darren Criss) and Broadway Baby-in-training Rachel (Lea Michele) were the runaway favorites, picking up 45% of the votes to play doomed lovers Tony and Maria in the Leonard Bernstein-Stephen Sondheim classic.
In the runner-up position, Rachel and boyfriend Finn (Cory Monteith) earned 14% of the votes. Coming in third were the fiery pairing of Puck (Mark Salling) and Santana (Naya Rivera)—our choice for Bernardo and Anita!—with 7%.
