Mamma Mia! will get a new home in London beginning next fall. In September 2012 the ABBA musical will gets its second West End transfer, this time to the Novello Theatre. Mamma Mia! made its London debut at the Prince Edward Theatre on April 6, 1999 before moving to Prince of Wales Theatre in 2003, where it recently celebrated its twelfth anniversary.
The London cast of Mamma Mia! currently features Sally Ann Triplett as Donna Sheridan, Joanna Monro as Rosie and Kim Ismay as Tanya. The cast also features Dani De Waal as Sophie Sheridan, Craig Fletcher as Sky, Hannah Fairclough as Ali, Rachel Sargent as Lisa, Warren Sollars as Pepper and Alex Jessop as Eddie. Rounding out the cast is William Tapley as Sam Carmichael, Oliver Senton as Harry Bright, Mark Gillis as Bill Austin.
A musical with a disco beat, Mamma Mia! features the music of Swedish singing group ABBA and a book by Catherine Johnson. It is set on a Greek island where a wedding is about to take place. The bride, 20-year-old Sophie, has never known her father. When she decides she wants her pop to walk her down the aisle, she searches her mother's diary for the names of possible dads and invites three of them to the wedding. Needless to say, her mother is upset by this. The show includes the popular songs "The Winner Takes It All," "Money, Money, Money," "Dancing Queen," "S.O.S," "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "Take A Chance on Me."
Featuring music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! was directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast.
