Tony Award winner Eddie Redmayne has been tapped to play young hero Marius in the forthcoming film adaptation of Les Miserables, according to Deadline.com. Redmayne joins previously announced stars Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert and Anne Hathaway as Fantine. Directed by Oscar winner Tom Hooper, Les Miserables will begin filming early in 2012 for release on December 7.
Redmayne received a 2010 Tony Award and London’s Olivier Award for his performance in Red. He co-stars with Michelle Williams in the new feature film My Week With Marilyn and prepping to star in Richard II at London’s Donmar Warehouse, directed by Michael Grandage. Other film credits include The Good Shepherd, the forthcoming Hick and the BBC miniseries Birdsong.
Cameron Mackintosh is producing Les Miserables with Working Title’s Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Debra Hayward. The film will have a script by two-time Oscar nominee William Nicholson and score by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil.
