In a move that will suprise none of her fans, from her days as a precocious Broadway baby to TV stardom on Glee, Lea Michele has landed a spot on Glamour magazine’s 2011 Women of the Year list. The musical theater star nabbed a spot as “The Diva Next Door,” and in a chat with the magazine it seems she has absolutely no problem with that title. “Women in powerful positions get labeled with the D word, but you have to use your diva-ness for good as a way to show your strengths,” Michele told the magazine. “I have this fire in me,” she said, “and it’s only getting stronger.”
Michele will be featured in the magazine's December issue along with fellow Women of the Year Jennifer Lopez, Tory Burch, Arianna Huffington, Laura, Barbara and Jenna Bush, Chelsea Handler, Withelma “T” Ortiz-Macey, Gabrielle Giffords, Cindy Sherman, Esraa Abdel Faith and Gloria Steinem, who is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award.
To sum up what makes Michele a Woman of the Year, the magazine cited a quote from her Glee and Spring Awakening co-star Jonathan Groff: “In an industry where girls are expected to look and act a certain way, she isn’t afraid to be her own person. She inspires me.”
Glamour’s December issue hits newsstands November 8.
