You’ve seen Johnny Weir showing off his balletic form as a champion figure skater, starring in his own reality series (Be Good Johnny Weir) and judging the short-lived Skating With the Stars. Now this fascinating athlete-turned-performer has his eye on a new endeavor: a role in a Broadway musical.
“I would have so much fun on Broadway,” Weir said before a recent performance of Seminar, starring his pal Jerry O’Connell. “I love to sing and dance, I love to be a spectacle, and I think Broadway is just the place for that.”
So, could Weir picture himself in any particular Broadway show? “Absolutely! Priscilla [Queen of the Desert]. I mean, hello!” Hello, indeed: While chatting with Broadway.com, Weir was perfectly turned out in a fur wrap, black wedge heels and a pricey Hermes Birkin bag.
The star admitted that he could use a crash course in theater before making his stage debut: “I’m not a good gay; I’m not up on the Broadway news, but I do support Broadway,” Weir said with a laugh. “It’s amazing what these performers can do.”
