Tony-nominated director Christopher Ashley and choreographer Sergio Trujillo have joined the creative team of the previously announced Broadway production of Leap of Faith. Tony-winning playwright Warren Leight has also signed on to revise the show's book with original author Janus Cercone. Featuring music by Oscar and Grammy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, Leap of Faith will make its Broadway premiere in the fall of 2012 starring four time Tony nominee Raul Esparza.
Leap of Faith marks Ashley’s return to Broadway after directing the Tony Award-winning Memphis. His other Broadway credits include Xanadu, All Shook Up and The Rocky Horror Show. Trujillo worked with Ashley as choreographer on Memphis and All Shook Up. His additional Broadway credits include choreographing Jersey Boys, The Addams Family, Next to Normal and Guys and Dolls. Leight won a Tony Award in 1999 for his play Side Man.
Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Leap of Faith follows Jonas Nightengale (Esparza), a part-time reverend and full-time con artist, who pitches a tent in a small Kansas town and invites the locals to a revival. The musical made its world premiere at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre in fall 2010 with a production starring Esparza and directed and choreographed by Rob Ashford.
