Playwright and actor David Drake will return to the off-Broadway stage in his new drag tragicomedy, My Tawny Valentine. Written by Drake and directed by David Briggson, the production runs February 17 and 24 and March 2 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre.
My Tawny Valentine tells the story of disco singer and one-hit wonder Tawny Heatherton, an eccentric showbiz survivor who recounts the disco zeitgeist of the early 1980s, her headline-grabbing turn as the “Pyro Girl of Long Island,” her stint as a “Hee-Haw Honey,” and her reunion with her long lost aunt, Joey Heatherton.
David Drake is best known for his off-Broadway solo show The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me. He has also appeared off-Broadway in Vampire Lesbians of Sodom and A Language of Their Own. Drake’s film credits include Philadelphia, It’s Pat and his own adaptation of The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me.
