After a shoot 'em up run as bank robber Bonnie Parker, Laura Osnes will show off her sweet side as iconic princess Cinderella. Osnes will play the title character in an upcoming reading of Cinderella, the Broadway-bound revamp of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical, the actress told Broadway.com. Directed by Mark Brokaw and featuring a revised book by Douglas Carter Beane, Cinderella is aiming to bow on Broadway during the 2012-13 season.
Osnes recently appeared on Broadway in Bonnie & Clyde. Her other Broadway credits include South Pacific, Anything Goes and Grease (as Sandy, a role she won on the NBC reality competition Grease: You’re the One That I Want).
In a recent Broadway.com poll fans even voted Osnes as their top choice to play Cinderella on stage.
Cinderella was originally made for TV in 1957 and starred Oscar winner Julie Andrews. The new production is also slated to feature additional Rodgers and Hammerstein songs that were cut from other musicals, including “Now is the Time” (South Pacific) and “I’ve Lived and I’ve Loved” (The Sound of Music).
