Diane Paulus (Porgy and Bess, Hair) will helm the new Cirque du Soleil show Amaluna. The new production will be presented in Grand Chapiteau on the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal on April 19, and at the Port de Québec on July 25. Following its engagement in Montreal, Amaluna will perform in Quebec City and Toronto. Further Canadian and United States engagements will be announced shortly.
Amaluna takes audiences to a mysterious island governed by goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Following a similar plot to Shakespeare’s The Tempest, the new Cirque du Soleil spectacular centers on the island queen Prospera, her daughter and the great storm that brings a group of young men to their enchanted island.
Paulus received a Tony nomination for her work on the Tony-winning revival of Hair. As artistic director the American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.), she has helmed the new Broadway production of Porgy and Bess, Prometheus Bound, Death and The Powers: The Robots’ Opera and The Donkey Show.
