Becoming Chaplin, a new musical depicting the life of silent film icon Charlie Chaplin, will open on Broadway during the 2012-2013 season. Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle (Finian's Rainbow), the show features music and lyrics by Christopher Curtis and a book by Curtis and Tony Award winner Thomas Meehan (The Producers). No theater or casting have been announced at this time.
From the slums of London to the heights of Hollywood, Becoming Chaplin reveals the story of the man behind the legend of films like The Gold Rush, The Kid and City Lights, an undeniable genius that forever changed the way America went to the movies.
The new musical comes to Broadway following a run at San Diego's La Jolla Playhouse in 2010, under the name Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin. The production starred Robert McClure (Avenue Q) as Chaplin and Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins) as Chaplin's fourth wife, Oona.
Becoming Chaplin is produced by Bob and Mindy Rich, Roy Gabay and John and Claire Caudwell.
