Sutton Foster and Gavin Creel became overnight Broadway stars in 2002, when they teamed up as young lovebirds Millie Dillmount and Jimmy Smith in the Tony-winning musical comedy Thoroughly Modern Millie. Now the two stars, who have remained close friends, are dreaming up a reunion.
“We will work together again,” Creel told Paul Wontorek on the new episode of Show People. “I can say truly...I’ve worked with a lot of incredible women but chemistry with someone like that is so rare. I fell in love with her.” The two young stars won the Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for Favorite Onstage Pair in 2002.
Creel even has the perfect project: the British musical comedy Me and My Girl, which Foster previously performed at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera for a week in 2004. “I want to do something [like that] where we can both sing and dance.”
“That’s my dream, too!” Foster, currently starring in Anything Goes on Broadway, cheered when contacted for comment. “Gavin is my favorite leading man. We got so close going through Millie together. I still have a dollar bill that he gave me for luck during previews. I’d love, love, love to work with him again!”
Creel is currently prepping his American Songbook concert alongside Tony-winning Broadway musical director and arranger Stephen Oremus. The pair will appear at the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center on February 4 at 8:30pm and 10:30pm.
