Two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone (Evita, Gypsy) will work with a select group of talented students on an upcoming episode of HBO’s Masterclass. The episode will feature excerpts from LuPone’s February 1 Madison, WI concert “The Gypsy in My Soul,” as well footage filmed since LuPone’s work on Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown in fall 2010. No air date has been announced.
HBO’s Masterclass is an Emmy-nominated documentary series that brings together iconic artists and students from across the United States. LuPone’s episode will be directed by Karen Goodman and Kirk Simon. Previous Masterclass mentors include Tony winner Bill T. Jones, Tony winner Edward Albee, Liv Ullmann, Julian Schnabel and Jacques d’Amboise.
In addition to Evita and Gypsy, LuPone received Tony nominations for her work in Sweeney Todd, Anything Goes and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Her other Broadway credits include An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin, Noises Off, Master Class, The Old Neighborhood and Oliver!.
