Comedian and two-time Tony nominee John Leguizamo has signed a development deal with ABC studios to star in a comedy television show, according to Deadline.com. The single-camera comedy will be inspired by his own life in New York City. No further casting or start date has been announced.
Leguizamo last appeared on Broadway in his 2011 solo show Ghetto Klown, with which he is currently touring. He earned Best Actor and Best Play Tony nominations for Freak. On Broadway he also wrote and starred in Sexaholix and appeared in American Buffalo. His film and TV credits include Moulin Rouge!, Ice Age, Romeo + Juliet, and E.R.
Leguizamo will executive produce the comedy alongside his manager Jeff Golenberg, as well as David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville who produced the ABC pilot Edison, also starring Leguizamo. No writer for the upcoming comedy has been announced.
