Two-time Tony winner Adam Guettel (The Light in the Piazza) is hard at work on four new musicals, according to The New York Times. His upcoming works include Myths and Hymns, a song cycle about Greek mythology opening February 8 at the Prospect Theater Company as well as musical adaptations of H. G. Wells’ Invisible Man, the 1962 film Days of Wine and Roses and the 2005 Danny Boyle film Millions.
Guettel's previously speculated Princess Bride musical adapation however is no longer in the works. Guettel and the film’s screenwriter William Goldman, who owned the rights to the property and was writing the book for the musical, ended their working relationship over issues with royalties and ownership.
Guettel won Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations for his work on the 2005 musical The Light in the Piazza. Guettel is the grandson of theater legend Richard Rodgers and the son of Once Upon a Mattress composer Mary Rodgers. His other credits include Floyd Collins, Love’s Fire and Saturn Returns (an earlier incarnation of Myths and Hymns).
