Pulitzer Prize nominee Kenneth Lonergan will direct the world premiere of his new comedy Medieval Play at off-Broadway’s Signature Theatre Company. The production begins previews May 15 and opens officially on June 7 at the End Stage Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center. Casting will be announced shortly.
Set in the late 14th century, Medieval Play is the tale of two French mercenary knights who set out on a quest for moral redemption. The play is a story of friendship, love, noble feats of arms, indiscriminate brutality, the progressive refinement of medieval table manners and the general decline of the chivalric ideal at the onset of the Great Papal Schism of 1378.
Lonergan received a Pulitzer Prize nomination for off-Broadway’s The Waverly Gallery. His other plays include This is Our Youth, Lobby Hero and The Starry Messenger. He performed on Broadway in the 2005 benefit Children and Art.
