Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini is in talks to write the music for a stage adaptation of the John Lennon biofilm Nowhere Boy, according to The Daily Mail. The forthcoming stage production, directed by Rupert Goold (Enron, Patrick Stewart’s Macbeth), is aiming for a West End run in 2013.
Nowhere Boy is based on the autobiography by John Lennon’s half sister Julia Baird and follows teenage John Lennon amid the tug-of-war between his biological mother and his aunt, who raised him. The film, which was directed by Sam Taylor-Wood, did not include Lennon’s time as a Beatle, so it is unclear if any Beatles tunes will be included in the show. The 2009 film starred Aaron Johnson as a young Lennon in addition to Kristin Scott Thomas.
Nutini has released two hit albums These Sreets and Sunny Side Up, the latter of which won the 2010 Meteor Award for Best International Album. Nowhere Boy marks his first work on a musical.
