The New York Philharmonic will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel from February 27, 2013 to March 2, according to Variety. Carousel will be helmed by James Brennan and conducted by Rob Fisher. The production is set to air on TV’s Live From Lincoln Center programming. No cast has been announced.
Carousel originally opened at Broadway’s Majestic Theatre on April 19, 1945. The production starred John Raitt as Billy Bigelow and Jan Clayton as Julie Jordan. Set on the coast of Maine, Carousel tells the love story between Julie and Billy, a carousel worker. The musical includes the classic songs “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “If I Loved You.” The musical has received four Broadway revivals, with the most recent being a 1994 Tony-winning production at the Vivien Beaumont Theatre. Tony winners Hugh Jackman and Audra McDonald also led a 2002 concert version at Carnegie Hall.
Brennan and Fisher will reunite in Carousel after collaborating on the New York Philharmonic’s 2007 production of My Fair Lady, starring Kelsey Grammer and Kelli O’Hara.
