Three-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara will star in the previously announced musical adaptation of the 2002 film Far From Heaven at Williamstown Theatre Festival. Directed by Michael Grief and featuring a score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie and book by Richard Greenberg, the show will run at the summer theater’s Main Stage from July 19 through 29. No details have been announced of further casting, or if O'Hara will reprise her role for the musical's planned run at off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizon during the 2012-13 season.
In Far From Heaven, Cathy Whitaker (O'Hara) seems to be the picture-perfect wife and mother in 1957 suburban Connecticut. Roiling beneath the surface, secret longings and forbidden desires cause her world to unravel, with incendiary consequences. The film received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Actress for Julianne Moore and Best Original Screenplay for director Todd Haynes.
O'Hara received Tony nominations for South Pacific, The Pajama Game and The Light in the Piazza. She has also appeared on Broadway in Dracula, Sweet Smell of Success, Follies and Jekyll & Hyde. She will star opposite Matthew Broderick in Nice Work If You Can Get It beginning March 29 at the Imperial Theatre.
