Broadway veterans Meryl Streep and Christopher Plummer, in addition to Broadway playwright Woody Allen, were among the winners at the 84th Annual Academy Awards.
Streep earned the Oscar for Best Actress for The Iron Lady, marking her third win (following Kramer vs. Kramer and Sophie's Choice) in addition to 14 other nominations. Plummer won for Best Supporting Actor for Beginners. Allen, who contributed a one-act play to this season's Relatively Speaking and is currently at work adapting his film Bullets Over Broadway for the stage, nabbed a win for Best Original Screenplay for Midnight in Paris.
The Artist took home the big prize for Best Picture, with the film's helmer Michel Hazanavicius taking Best Director, and Jean Dujardin winning for Best Actor. Awards also went to The Help's Octavia Spencer for Best Supporting Actress and The Descendants' Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash for Best Adapted Screenplay.
