Things were topsy-turvy at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on March 5, when some of Broadway’s brightest stars came out to support Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS at Broadway Backwards 7. What makes the annual event so backwards? Once a year, these singers get a chance to perform Broadway songs they’d never ordinarily get to sing because they were written for the opposite gender. Stars like Andrew Rannells, Betty Buckley, Robin De Jesús and Mario Cantone lent their voices to this fun-filled fundraiser, then headed over to John’s to celebrate their success. The evening raised a record-breaking $329,000 to benefit BC/EFA and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center.
