Tony Award winners Laura Benanti and Julie White have been cast in the NBC comedy pilot Go On, according to Deadline.com. The Scott Silveri project, which will be directed by Todd Holland, co-stars Matthew Perry (Friends), Khary Payton (G.I. Joe: Renegades), Allison Miller (Terra Nova), and Suzy Nakamura (The West Wing).
The series follows Ryan (Perry), an irreverent yet charming sportscaster who, trying to move on from a loss, finds surprising solace in the members of his mandatory support group. Anne (White), a feisty but grieving widow, searches for peace alongside Ryan. Lauren (Benanti), the leader of the Transitions support group is wound tightly but manages to keep her cool, at least most of the time.
A Tony winner for Gypsy, Benanti most recently appeared on Broadway in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, for which she received a Tony nomination. Her other Broadway credits include In the Next Room or The Vibrator Play, The Wedding Singer, Nine, The Sound of Music and Tony-nominated performances in Into the Woods and Swing!. Her film and TV credits include Take the Lead, Falling From Grace and NBC’s The Playboy Club. Julie White won a Tony Award for her role as Diane in The Little Dog Laughed and made her Broadway debut in The Heidi Chronicles. She has also appeared off-Broadway in The Understudy, Twelfth Night and From Up Here. Her extensive film and TV credits include Transfomers, Law & Order and Desperate Housewives.
