Academy Award winner Kate Winslet may make her stage debut in David Hare’s drama Skylight, according to London’s Daily Mail. The production will be helmed by Hare himself, with Winslet as Kyra Hollis, and Bill Nighy reprising his role as Tom Sargeant. No word on where the production would play.
Set in London, Skylight is the story of Tom (Nighy), a restaurant owner who meets his former mistress, Kyra (Winslet) after his wife’s death. Skylight opened on Broadway in 1996 at the Royale Theatre, starring Michael Gambon, Lia Wiliams and Christian Camargo. The production was nominated for four Tony Awards, including Best Play.
Winslet won an Academy Award for The Reader. Her additional film credits include Sense and Sensibility, Revolutionary Road, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Finding Neverland, Contagion and Titanic. In 2011, Winslet starred as Nancy Cowan in Carnage, a film based on Yasmina Reza’s Olivier and Tony-winning hit God of Carnage.
