Oscar and Tony winner Whoopi Goldberg will join the FOX hit Glee for a multi-episode arc, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Goldberg will play Carmen Tibideaux, a theater veteran and admissions professor at NYADA, the fictional performing arts college Lea Michele and Chris Colfer’s characters hope to attend. Goldberg will join Glee beginning May 1.
Goldberg starred on Broadway in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Whoopi Goldberg and Xanadu. She earned a Tony Award for producing Thoroughly Modern Millie. She also currently serves as producer for the Tony-nominated musical Sister Act. Goldberg won an Oscar for her role as Oda Mae Brown in the film Ghost. Her additional film credits include The Color Purple, Sister Act, Soapdish, The Lion King and Made in America. Currently, she is one of the co-hosts of the popular morning show The View. Goldberg is one of the few entertainers to have won an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award.
As previously announced, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer will remain with the series for its fourth season, despite the fact that their characters are all graduating seniors. Glee returns to television on April 10.
