The Public Theater’s upcoming Shakespeare in the Park production of Into the Woods will feature Jessie Mueller as Cinderella and Gideon Glick as Jack. Directed by Timothy Sheader with co-direction by Liam Steel, the musical begins its run July 23 and continues through August 25. Opening night is set for August 9. Further casting has also been announced for the outdoor production of As You Like It.
In addition to Mueller (On a Clear Day You Can See Forever) and Glick (Spring Awakening), Into The Woods will star Jack Broderick as Narrator, Cooper Grodin as Rapunzel’s Prince, Ivan Hernandez (Yank!) as Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf, Tina Johnson (State Fair) as Granny, Josh Lamon (Hair) as Steward, Laura Shoop (Fiddler on the Roof) as Cinderella’s Mother and Tess Soltau as Rapunzel. Further casting, including the role of the Witch, will be announced at a later date.
The 2012 Shakespeare in the Park summer season kicks off June 5 with the classic comedy As You Like It, starring previously announced Lily Rabe as Rosalind. The production ends its run June 30. Joining Rabe will be David Furr (The Importance of Being Earnest) as Orlando, Stephen Spinella (Angels in America) as Jaques, MacIntyre Dixon (Prelude to a Kiss) as Adam, Renee Elise Goldsberry (Good People) as Celia and Omar Metwally (Sixteen Wounded) as Oliver.
The production will feature scenic design by John Lee Beatty and Soutra Gilmour, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Natasha Katz, movement direction by Liam Steel and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.
