Julia Murney (Wicked) and Paul Anthony Stewart (The People in the Picture) will join previously announced star David Hyde Pierce in The Landing, a new musical by John Kander and Greg Pierce. Directed by Tony winner Walter Bobbie (Chicago, Venus in Fur), the musical will run off-Broadway May 15 through June 3 as part of the Vineyard Theatre’s Developmental Lab program.
The Landing is described as “a beautiful and haunting musical, comprised of three distinct and gripping stories.” This marks the first theatrical collaboration with another writer for John Kander since the 2004 passing of his long-time writing partner Fred Ebb. Together the prolific team of Kander and Ebb created some of Broadway’s most well known musicals including Chicago, Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink, Steel Pier and The Scottsboro Boys (which received its 2010 premiere at the Vineyard). An initial announcement of The Landing had listed Scott Ellis as the director.
Murney has appeared in on Broadway in Wicked, The Wild Party, Lennon and benefit performances of Funny Girl, Chess and Hair. Stewart has appeared on Broadway in The People in the Picture, Fiddler on the Roof and Cyrano: The Musical.
