Original Baby cast members Liz Callaway and Todd Graff will host a concert version of the 1983 musical, presented by Transport Group, June 18 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Featuring music by David Shire, lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr. and a book by Sybille Pearson, the Baby concert will be directed by Jack Cummings III, with musical direction by Chris Haberl. Casting will be announced shortly.
Based on a story developed with Susan Yankowitz, Baby follows three couples who are all expecting children, but have entirely different reactions to the news. Baby opened on December 4, 1983 at Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre, and received seven Tony nominations, including Best Musical. The musical ran for 241 total performances before closing on July 1, 1984.
Callaway and Graff earned Tony nods for Baby. Callaway made her Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along, and has appeared in Cats, The Three Musketeers, Miss Saigon, Something Wonderful and The Look of Love. Graff made his Broadway debut in Baby. His film and TV credits include The Electric Company and The Abyss. Graff wrote screenplays for Joyful Noise, Camp and The Beautician and the Beast.
