When Paul Nolan is making his powerful transition into the title character in Jesus Christ Superstar eight times as week, it’s as much an emotional transformation as a physical one. “Some nights I come in to play Jesus and I feel deeply sad,” he says, “And sometimes I’m way too happy to play Jesus Christ. But I use it. I use as much anger as I’ve got, as much love as I have, as much happiness and joy and all of those things.” But the physical shift is also necessary, from Jesus’ signature locks to onstage attire. “It’s the best costume I’ve ever worn because nothing restricts me,” he says of Jesus’ flowing white robes, “It’s like getting to sing naked!” Click on below to see Nolan become a Broadway Superstar.
