Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal will star in the Roundabout Theatre Company's If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet, a comic drama by Nick Payne. Directed by Michael Longhurst, the production will begin performances on August 24 and open officially on September 20 at off-Broadway’s Laura Pels Theatre. The production will play a limited engagement through November 25. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet is the story of 15-year-old Anna, a natural target for bullies because of her weight. Her mom transfers Anna to the school where she teaches in order to protect her daughter, but the move only makes things worse. When Anna gets suspended for retaliating with a head-butt, her estranged uncle Terry (Gyllenhaal) arrives unannounced. A heartbroken drifter with the mouth of a sailor, Terry reaches out to Anna in a way no one ever has. Their unexpected friendship sends her parents' rocky marriage into a tailspin as the whole family wonders what—or who—really needs saving?
After appearing in City Slickers as a child, Gyllenhaal starred in October Sky, Donnie Darko, The Good Girl, Moonlight Mile, Jarhead, Zodiac, Source Code, Love and Other Drugs and Brokeback Mountain, earning an Oscar nomination for his performance. In London’s West End, Gyllenhaal made his stage debut in Kenneth Lonergan’s This is Our Youth.
In addition to If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet, Roundabout has announced a world premiere production of Joshua Elias Harmon's Bad Jews at the company's Roundabout Underground black box theater. Directed by Daniel Aukin, the play will begin performances on October 5 and open officially on October 30 for a limited engagement through December 16. No casting has been announced.
