Nicky Silver’s comedy The Lyons officially opens at Broadway’s Cort Theatre on April 23. Directed by Mark Brokaw, The Lyons stars Broadway favorites Linda Lavin, Dick Latessa, Michael Esper and Kate Jennings Grant as the dysfunctional Lyons family.
Several Broadway and TV veterans will be on hand to welcome this fearsome foursome back to the Main Stem including Marlo Thomas and hubby Phil Donahue, The Best Man’s Michael McKean, How to Succeed in Business’ Michael Urie, Sarah Paulson, Memphis’ Montego Glover, Celia Weston, Matthew Risch, Phyllis Newman, Julia Murney, Charles Busch, Julie Halston, Douglas Carter Beane and Jesus Christ Superstar’s Josh Young.
The Lyons is about a family grappling with the impending death of its patriarch (Latessa). When Ben Lyons’ wife, Rita (Lavin), and their grown children gather to say goodbye, they learn that despite being a family, each of them is utterly isolated. Afraid of closeness and afraid of solitude, they are propelled into foreign territory—human connection.
The Lyons first opened at off-Broadway's Vineyard Theatre on October 11, 2011 to critical acclaim and enjoyed an extended run downtown. The show also features Brenda Pressley and Gregory Wooddell.
