The West End production of The King’s Speech, currently playing at London’s Wyndham’s Theatre, will close on May 12. Written by David Seidler who also wrote the Oscar-winning screenplay for the film version of The King’s Speech, the production began performances on March 22 and opened officially on March 27. The King's Speech stars Charles Edwards as King George VI.
Based on a true story, The King’s Speech was the inspiration for the 2010 Oscar-winning film of the same name, about King George VI (Edwards), who sees a speech therapist for his stammer. The King's Speech premiered on February 10 at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre before transferring to the West End.
In addition to Seidler, The King’s Speech features Charles Edwards as King George VI, Jonathan Hyde as Lionel Logue, Emma Fielding as Queen Elizabeth, Ian McNeice as Winston Churchill, Michael Feast as Cosmo Lang, and Joss Ackland as King George V. Further casting includes Charlotte Randle as Myrtle Logue, David Killick as Stanley Baldwin, and Daniel Betts as King Edward VIII.
