London's Landor Theatre's revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood will transfer to West End’s Arts Theatre for a limited engagement beginning May 18. The production is set to run through June 17. Directed by Matthew Gould and starring Wendi Peters, the murder mystery features a score and book by Rupert Holmes.
The Mystery of Edwin Drood, an adaption of Charles Dicken’s unfinished novel, is a play-within-a-play set in the world of music hall and pantomime. The story follows the exploits of characters from the Theatre Royale Music Hall Company as they set about completing the unfinished story of Edwin Drood – with a little singalong help from the audience.
Joining Peters (Coronation Street) in the cast are also Natalie Day (Les Miserables, Queens), Victoria Farley (Les Miserables, Barbican), Daniel Robinson (Jekyll & Hyde), Loula Geater, David Francis, Denis Delahunt, Richard Stirling, Chris Coleman, Oliver Mawdsley, Paul Hutton, Tom Pepper and Ben Goffe.
The musical originally opened on Broadway on December 2, 1985, running for 608 performances and winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
