Nominations for the 62nd annual Outer Critics Circle Awards were announced on April 23, with the new Gershwin tuner Nice Work If You Can Get It leading the group with nine nominations. Newsies and Once, both new musicals, received seven nods each. Winners of the Outer Critics Circle Awards will be announced on May 14, with the annual awards ceremony to follow at Sardi’s Restaurant on May 24. The Outer Critics Circle is an organization of writers and commentators covering New York theater for various out-of-town media outlets. The Outer Critics Circle will present a special award to the Public Theater in honor of its 50th anniversary offering free performances in Central Park’s Delacorte Theater. Several of this year's high-profile Broadway offerings such as Other Desert Cities, Clybourne Park, Venus in Fur and Peter and the Starcatcher were not eligible for this year's awards as their off-Broadway productions had previously been taken into consideration in past years. Actors not in the original production however were deemed eligible.
