An only child from a working-class background, Wilkerson saw dance as a social activity and continued to cultivate her interests in sports and broadcast journalism until she found herself dancing in national tours and eventually in Broadway’s The Lion King. Now a bona fide Broadway dancer, Wilkerson embraces her Broadway life in the starry Porgy and Bess revival.
