NBC’s Broadway-themed series Smash has tapped Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Safran to serve as the show's new executive producer for season two, according to Deadline.com. Safran will succeed creator/executive producer Theresa Rebeck, who stepped down from the NBC series in March.
Safran has served as an executive producer of Gossip Girl since the show launched in 2007, and has wrote 18 episodes of the show.
The season finale of Smash airs May 14. Smash currently stars Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston, Jack Davenport and Raza Jaffrey.
