Two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster is readying for her close up as she headlines the upcoming ABC Family series Bunheads. Foster recently took part in a fashion spread for Women's Wear Daily and spoke with the paper about her first experience as a TV star.
"In a way, I’m starting at the beginning,” Foster said of her new career path. “I’m not known in the TV field. I hope my theater fans will find me. I’ll be in their living rooms every week.”
In Bunheads, Foster plays a former Las Vegas showgirl who becomes a dance teacher at her mother-in-law's studio. The show will reunite Foster with her Anything Goes co-star Kelly Bishop, who is also a veteran of Bunheads creator Amy Sherman-Palladino's hit series Gilmore Girls. "Amy’s one of a kind," Foster said of the famed writer/producer. "She really has a point of view. When they offered me the Bunheads part, I cried. Whenever something’s overwhelming, I cry."
So is Foster partying it up in Hollywood now that she's a resident of Los Angeles? Doesn't sound like it as she revealed her new favorite hobby: crocheting and making blankets. "I’ve made 15 of them,” she said. “I do a lot of granny square action. I also work a lot with collage and do ink drawings and acrylics. I always have 15 projects going at once."
Bunheads begins its run June 11.
