After outcry from the theater community led by composer Jason Robert Brown, the Drama Desk Awards committee has decided to reinstate the Outstanding Orchestrations category. The award had been left off the list of nominees when nominations were initially announced on April 27.
"The Drama Desk prides itself on celebrating New York's rich theatrical community," Drama Desk president Isa Goldberg said in a statement. "Our executive board appreciates the forthright and passionate response to our nominations announcement and have take your comments to heart. The executive board is very happy to reinstate the Outstanding Orchestrations category and honor the dedication and hard work of this season's talented orchestrators."
The list of nominations for Outstanding Orchestrations now includes:
Bill Elliott, Nice Work If You Can Get It
Larry Hochman, Death Takes a Holiday
Martin Lowe, Once
John McDaniel, Bonnie & Clyde
Michael Starobin, Queen of the Mist
Danny Troob, Newsies
The Drama Desk Awards will take place June 3 at Town Hall.
