The musical adaptation of The Bodyguard will begin its West End run November 6 at the Adelphi Theatre. Directed by Thea Sharrack, the production is set to open December 5. Lloyd Owen will play Frank Farmer alongside previously announced star Heather Headley as Rachel Marron. The musical features a book by Alex Dinelaris, as well as songs from the popular movie and other highlights from the career of the film's late star Whitney Houson.
The Bodyguard film starred Houston as Marron, a soul singer who hires former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (played by Kevin Costner in the film), as her bodyguard to protect her from a crazed, violent fan. The film's soundtrack won three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.
Owen's theater credits include Loyalty, Blood and Gifts, The York Realist, Julius Caesar and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
The production will feature lighting design by Mark Henderson, sound design by Richard Brooker, choreography by Arthur Pita, orchestrations by Chris Egan and musical supervision by Mixe Dixon.
