The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start buzzing with texts and calls for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2012 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Celia Keenan-Bolger
Nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Play, Peter and the Starcatcher
“I'm so excited for our show! It feels amazing! The first thing I thought about was the cast. They are such a huge part of why this is happening. I felt like 99.9% sure Christian [Borle] would do well and that was important to me, and, of course, I hoped the show would be represented. I would be lying if I said I didn't want one, but I never expected it. I just hoped for the best and expected the worst. Gavin Creel was the first person I talked to. He called me immediately and was so sweet. He's a big champion of the show, so he was excited. He said to be grateful and remember how special this is, which is a great thing to keep in your brain. My brother [Andrew Keenan-Bolger] was the second call I got. His show [Newsies] did really well, too, and that was really exciting. The first time I was nominated [in 2005 for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee], I don't even think I knew the nominations were that day, but the second time around you can't pretend that you don't. So my husband and I got up and watched. I'm excited to pick out a dress, but I don't know if that's what I’m most excited for. I feel like everything beyond this is gravy. I don't have any expectations of winning. I just get to enjoy myself. I'm really excited to hang out with Spencer Kayden at events because I’m a huge fan of hers. I’m excited to hang out around all these people that are nominated today.”
