The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start buzzing with texts and calls for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2012 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Christian Borle
Nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Play, Peter and the Starcatcher
“I’m elated! It’s a very, very nice morning! And of course I’m proud and excited to be nominated. Who wouldn’t be? It’s unreal! I’m so happy for Rick Elice, I’m so happy for the play! I’m so happy for Celia [Keenan-Bolger]! She’s so great. I set my alarm like any responsible excited actor does and I turned on NY1 and I watched it live and sat on my couch with my cup of coffee. It was an out of body experience. All I could think was 'Oh, they used the headshot with my hair parted for Smash.' I’m lucky enough that I have a last name that starts with a B, but it was one of the last categories called so there was a little bit of suspense to it. It’s a really special time in our community. To hear Peter and the Starcatcher said over and over again was like a fever dream! It was amazing. I’m so proud of this play. Nine nominations! I just hope it puts Peter and the Starcatcher on the radar a little more. The Tonys brings a certain cache and a certain visibility, which is very exciting and helpful. To say that you got nine nominations is better than saying the opposite. I just hope people are hearing wonderful things because I’m very proud of it.”
