The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start buzzing with texts and calls for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2012 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Tom Edden
Nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Play, One Man, Two Guvnors
"I can’t believe it. I really can’t. I’ve been here four weeks, I’ve barely unpacked, and I get this incredible thing! For me it was a dream come true to get to the National Theatre in Great Britain, and then for the play to be a hit in London. Even the thought of coming to New York was this huge fantasy. I thought that was the cherry on the cake and now there’s another cherry on top of that cherry. There are so many cherries, I can’t get over it. I’m flabbergasted. I’ve never even been to New York, so to be recognized by the theatrical community in this way is very humbling. I made the foolish mistake of watching [the nominations] on the television, which played with my nerves because I didn’t realize that the supporting artists come right at the end. When I heard my name I sort of laughed out loud and I called my partner and he didn't pick up. So I called my agent and he didn't pick up. So I called my mother, who I probably should have called first! My parents are over the moon. As for today, I have a physical therapy session before the show so I’m going to have a nice massage, but we have two shows tomorrow so I can't go out this evening. I’ll have to think of something extravagant to do at some point. There's a dirty martini with my name on it at some point in the week."
