The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start buzzing with texts and calls for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2012 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Elizabeth A. Davis
Nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Once
"I'm just in shock! It's absolutely humbling. My hubby Jordan and I were dead asleep, and I had no intention of engaging in anything to do with the Tonys until I got to the theater tonight. But my downstairs neighbor Claudette, who has been a supporter of the show since I've been involved, came screaming up the stairs and woke us up and screamed, 'You've been nominated!' I came bleary-eyed out of the door and didn't believe her until my husband checked online and said, 'It's true, baby,' and I just collapsed on my floor. My husband took Claudette to opening night of Once downtown and she's been a part of all this, so I’m glad she was the one to tell me. I’ve had so many voicemails and texts; it’s all very exciting. We certainly took a moment and got on our knees and thanked God, and took a moment to put it all in perspective. It means that a girl from a town with 350 people in the middle of nowhere Texas can have a dream and work hard and never give up and see it through fruition. I'm looking forward to meeting people who have changed the craft, to not having any expectations but taking the season for what it is and just learning and growing. Our wonderful producers gave us a bottle of Rioja for opening night, and I sadly cannot have alcohol or caffeine, but I think my hubby and Claudette might break open the bottle and I might look on in celebratory fashion."
