Newsies Choreographer Christopher Gattelli Was Too Nervous to Watch the Nominations

The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start buzzing with texts and calls for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2012 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!

"My God, I’m over the moon! To be honest, I was a little nervous so I just sat there with my phone next to me and I was like, ‘If I get nominated, it will start buzzing; if not, I’ll just keeping sipping my coffee.’ I had my computer on, looking over mail, trying to keep myself distracted while I had one eye on the phone. [I heard] from my associate Lou Castro, which was perfect. When I saw his name pop up, I just screamed. I’ll probably take Lou out tonight to toast the great news. I just want to enjoy it this time. When I was nominated for South Pacific, it was so new and so overwhelming. It was that childhood dream of being nominated, I was kind of out of my body. This time I’m looking forward to enjoying the whole ride of it."
