Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow has been offered the role of Sylvia Llewelyn Davies in the forthcoming musical adaptation of Finding Neverland, according to U.K.’s Daily Mail. The previously announced production will star Julian Ovenden as Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie and is set to open at Leicester’s Curve Theatre in September. With music by Scott Frankel, lyrics by Michael Korie, and a book by Finding Neverland film screenwriter Allan Knee, the production will be directed and choreographed by Rob Ashford. Finding Neverland is set to play a five-week limited engagement, then hopes to transfer to the West End. No further casting has been announced.
Finding Neverland, based on the 2004 Oscar-nominated film of the same name, is the story of Barrie and his relationship with widow Sylvia Llewelyn and her family, who inspire him to write the story of Peter Pan. The film starred Johnny Depp as J.M. Barrie and Kate Winslet as Sylvia. Directed by Marc Foster, the film was based on the play The Man Who Was Peter Pan, also by Knee.
Paltrow played young Wendy Darling in the 1991 film Hook. She won an Oscar for her performance in Shakespeare in Love, and appeared on the London stage in Proof, as well as the subsequent film adaptation. Her additional film and TV credits include The Avengers, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Se7en, Contagion and The Royal Tenenbaums. Paltrow has sung on screen in Country Strong and Glee.
