With the recent resurgence of boy bands in the news and on the airwaves, Broadway.com asked readers which boy band they think deserves their own jukebox musical. The race was close as old '90s rivalries flared up between *NSYNC fans and Backstreet Boys fans. Check out the full results below!
1. *NSYNC – 35%
Formed in 1995, *NSYNC featured Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone. With sales of 9.9 million, their 2000 album No Strings Attached ranks as the top selling-album of the decade. Though the group parted ways in 2002, their music lives on with hits like “It’s Gonna Be Me,” “I Want You Back,” “I Drive Myself Crazy” and “Bye Bye Bye.” Bass went on to appear in Broadway's Hairspray, with Fatone also appearing on the Great White Way in Rent and Little Shop of Horrors.
2. Backstreet Boys – 25%
Another popular boy band of the '90s, the Backstreet Boys are still going strong, performing concerts around the world with original members: Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, A.J. McLean, Howie Dorogh and Kevin Richardson. BSB's many hits include “I Want It That Way,” “As Long As You Love Me,” “Everybody” and “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart).” Richardson even made his Broadway debut in Chicago in 2003.
3. One Direction– 15%
This British-Irish boy band is currently making waves on both sides of the Atlantic. Discovered by Simon Cowell on TV's The X Factor, the group's debut album Up All Night became the first debut album from a U.K. group to debut at number one in the U.S. Their first world tour is also set to begin in 2013. Though they only have one album so far, it's packed with hits like “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Gotta Be You,” “Up All Night” and “One Thing.”
