Tony Award winner Michael Rupert is set to star in 7th Monarch, a new play by Jim Henry. Directed by Scott, C. Embler, the limited engagement begins performances at off-Broadway's Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row on June 12. Opening night is set for June 24, and the production runs through September 9. The cast also features Michael Cullen, Gretchen Hall, Leslie Hendrix and Matthew Humphreys.
7th Monarch tells the story of Miriam Hemmerick, a mathematical genius once on the fast track to becoming an astronaut. For the past 20 years, after dropping out of college, she has lived in seclusion with her parents. Raina, a social worker, begins to investigate a potential crime involving Miriam’s mother and father, however the parents themselves are nowhere to be found. The mysteries start there, and dark personal secrets about these two women are soon revealed.
Rupert earned a Tony Award for Sweet Charity. His Broadway credits include Legally Blonde, The Happy Time, City of Angels, Falsettos and Ragtime. His off-Broadway credits include March of the Falsettos, Putting It Together, Falsettoland and Elegies. Cullen’s theater credits include Bug, Cobb, Bus Stop, One Shot, One Kill and The Intelligent Sign of Jenny Chow. Hall appeared on Broadway in Stick Fly and at Lincoln Center in Saturn Returns. Her TV credits include Person of Interest, Gossip Girl and Lipstick Jungle. Hendrix’s Broadway credits include The Music Man, Indiscretions, A Streetcar Named Desire and Hollywood Arms. Humphreys appeared on Broadway in The Vertical Hour. His film credits include The Good Shepherd and Chapter 27.
