A brigade of glamorous ladies (and a gentleman or two!) got locked up at off-Broadway’s Acorn Theatre on May 7 for a benefit reading of Tom Eyen’s black comedy Women Behind Bars. Helmed by artistic director Scott Elliott, the New Group’s one-night-only reading featured a star-studded cast including Cynthia Nixon, Rosie O’Donnell, Janeane Garofalo, Natasha Lyonne, Rhea Perlman, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Halley Feiffer, Jennifer Tilly, Nancy Giles, Charles Busch and Josh Hamilton. Set on New Year’s Eve in 1952, Women Behind Bars is the outrageous story of the goings on at the Women’s House of Detention in Greenwich Village. After the show, the cast headed to Italian restaurant Il Punto for a post-show reception. Click below to see this talented bunch get thrown in the slammer!
