TNT has ordered 10 episodes of the previously announced medical drama Monday Mornings (formerly called Chelsea General), starring three-time Tony nominee Alfred Molina (Red) and Tony winner Bill Irwin (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), according to Deadline.com. Written and produced by David E. Kelley and neurosurgeon Sanjay Gupta, the series is slated for a summer 2013 premiere.
Set at the fictional Chelsea General Hospital in Portland, Oregon, Monday Mornings follows the lives of five doctors. The series is set against the backdrop of the hospital’s Monday Morbidity and Mortality conference. Considered the most secretive meeting in all of medicine, doctors gather for a confidential weekly review of complications and errors in patient care.
In Monday Mornings, Molina stars as Dr. Harding Hooten, the Chief of Surgery and head of the weekly meeting who is known for his punishing, uncaring ways. Irwin plays Dr. Buck Tierney, a smug doctor who takes himself so seriously, he irritates his colleagues. In addition to Molina and Irwin, the cast also includes Ving Rhames, Jamie Bamber, Jennifer Finnigan, Keong Sim, Sarayu Rao and Emily Swallow.
