“My earliest memory of a Tony telecast is The Secret Garden, Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman’s show. I was very, very young, about 11 years old. I didn’t know the show at all—this was before I was even interested in theater—but I remember watching Mandy Patinkin, who was an idol of mine, sing ‘Lily’s Eyes.’ That’s definitely the one that stands out in my mind.”
