Thumbs Up! Megan Hilty & Co. Dazzle in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at Encores!

Diamonds come in all shapes, colors and sizes, but none sparkle quite as bright as Megan Hilty as gold-digging blonde Lorelei Lee in the Encores! charming revival of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. From her over-the-top “entree” to her subtle winks and nudges to the audience, Hilty's Lorelei is utterly delightful. She finds the perfect blend between her own bubbly personality, the comic timing of the 1949 show's original star Carol Channing and the sex appeal of Marilyn Monroe, who memorably played the character on the silver screen. The revival reaches its peak during the 15 minute or so interlude that includes “Mamie Is Mimi” (perfectly choreographed by Randy Skinner and executed by Jared Grimes, Megan Sikora and Phillip Attmore ) and Hilty’s showstopping rendition of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.” Perfection! If Hilty weren't already a TV star with two Broadway credits under her belt, we’d call her Lorelei Lee "a star is born" performance.
