The world premiere of Kenneth Lonergan’s Medieval Play, starring Josh Hamilton, John Pankow, Anthony Arkin, Heather Burns, Tate Donovan, Halley Feiffer and C.J. Wilson, begins performances May 15. Presented by the Signature Theatre Company and helmed by Lonergan, the production’s official opening night is set for June 7. Medieval Play will perform a limited engagement through June 24 at the Irene Diamond Stage at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center.
Set at the onset of the Great Papal Schism of 1378, Medieval Play is the story of two French mercenary knights who set out on a quest for relative moral redemption against the classic comic background of late 14th century ecclesiastical politics. Medieval Play is the story of friendship, love, noble feats of arms, indiscriminate brutality, the progressive refinement of medieval table manners and the general decline of the chivalric ideal.
Medieval Play features set design by Walt Spangler, costume design by Michael Krass, lighting design by Jason Lyons and sound design by David Van Tieghem.
